“We have been so lonely since the children left”
This big house has seemed so quiet and empty. Tim and I even had been considering selling and trying to downsize, but at this stage that is just too hard. That all changed when we offered our spare rooms up to HomeShare. In the last 3 years we have had 5 different University students come to stay – all very different and all have been wonderful. We feel extremely priviliged to have helped these kids and now have a large and very international family.

“It is not easy to find a place to live in Australia”
It is not just that english is not my first language, it is also that everything here is so expensive. The student accommodation at the Hospital is simply awful – so noisy and unfriendly – and the other student hostels I found just don’t support my need to pray and eat halal. HomeShare helped me find a wonderful family to live with. Tim may be Christian and Ruth Jewish, but we share the cooking and they help support me with the food I need. Ruth has also been helping me with my studies. I am very happy.

“I am much happier now”
Looking back, I now realise that I isolated myself and started to get really old after my husband died. HomeShare suggested Yanti – an Indonesian student studying here at TAFE – needed a place to live and, like me, is a vegetarian and also interested in crochetting and netball. She helps me around the house and we have so much fun together.

“A second home “
It is not that I don’t love my parents, it’s just that – like – living with them was stiffling my creativity. You know. Any way, through HomeShare I found a really cool place with John and Peter – this gay couple. Pete’s been helping me with my presentations, so I’m doing really well at Uni and I now recon that I see more of my parents than I ever did. Pretty cool hey

“We love solving the world problems”
Anna and I love our indepth analyses of all the world problems. She’s working part time and also studying politics at Flinders, so was just struggling to make ends meet and desperately needed a place to live.
