The population age distribution of people living alone in Australia shows alarming characteristics. Half of these are more than 60 years old, and as the ages progress, we have twice as many women staying alone as men. These are both matters of concern and call for immediate action.

At the same time, renting in big cities is getting crazy and young people especially students, are desperately looking for alternative models of finding suitable accommodation.

There is a huge waiting list for people who have applied for public housing. Currently, the allotment is 3% of the total number of applicants. This indicates that there are a huge number of people seeking affordable accommodation.

The percentage of youth who engage in some form of study falls sharply after the 19 year age mark. Only 42% of people in the 20-24 age group go for education in any form, versus 82% for the preceding age group of 15 – 19.
